SHUTDOWN - SOMETHING TO PROVE - Victory VR113
Great hardcore from Shutdown. This is more old school New York City hardcore. These guys rule. This should be the future of hardcore, not the metal stuff I’m hearing now. Mark Scondotto and Stephen Della Croce explosively energetic vocals and guitar make this band. This band has come a long way, I’m looking forward to a new lp. J. Maisey |

DROWNING MAN - HOW THEY LIGHT CIGARETTES IN PRISON- Revelation REV89
Loud fast intricate hardcore here. I get into this singer. The band seems to gelling together more than there Hydrahead release the song writing is getting stronger. Their musical abilities are getting stronger too. I’m looking forward to the next album. B. Jones |

ARSON - WORDS WRITTEN IN BLOOD -Resurection A.D. RR13
First off the title cut sounds like Slayer. The drummer needs to get rid of the double bass drum thing, it’s overkill, it could be done tastefully. But the other three songs mellow out into some good hardcore. It’s still a little to metal for my taste, but people will like this. D. Washburn |

FURY OF FIVE - THIS TIME IT’S PERSONAL -Victory VR117
Asbury Park, New Jersey’s hardcore/metal crossover band is back with a new album. This time a little more hardcore than metal. The guitarist still from time to time throws in some metal licks but that’s okay. Nice mix adding Karen Crisis vocals on "It’s Over". They seem to be getting away from the hip hop except for "Wigga in the Hood". They are getting better each record. B. Bradshaw |

BLUETIP - NEW SHOE PREMONITION 7" -Bcore BC72
Pretty decent single, but I bet this band is better live. There’s some interesting guitar work on side A. Both songs on the Bside are pretty fast paced, rockin’, dischord punk. If you’re a fan of the Dischord sound and haven’t heard this band, they’re worth checking out. By the way this is a limited edition, so get it soon because they won’t be around long. M. Jagger |

TECH 9 - CYBERKILLERS - Label unknown
An onslaught cyber attack on the senses. Vince Guzzardi and L. Spike lay down strong sequenced bass, drums, and keyboards, intertwined with great vocal attacks from Octavio 9. They remind me of earlier Armageddon Dildos. The songs I like the best are "Victim of Technology" and "11th Hour". D. Washburn |

SCREECHING WEASEL - THANK YOU VERY LITTLE Panic Button PB280CD/LK239CD
This is a double CD of hard hitting melodic punk songs. The first 28 songs are a collection of outtakes, demos, covers from the bands 14 years carrer. The rest is an entire show from Philadelphia in 1993. The sound quality is not as good but the band is playing better than ever, this is a must for punk rock fans. B. Bradshaw |

APOPTYGMA BERZERK - WELCOME TO EARTH - Metropolis MET143
Stephen Groth has succeeded in making the perfect synth-pop cd with "Welcome to Earth". I can’t say enough good things about this record, it combines flowing dreamscapes with dance rhythms. "Eclipse" the single from the cd is a must for raves. The other song that catches my attention is "Moment of Tranquility". It uses Twin Peak themes to highlight Stephens’ great voice. B. Bradshaw |

INCOGNEGRO - SELF TITLED - Chord CHORD0029
I’m not into this CD too much. It has an interesting mix of triphop, rap, dub mixed with Beck soundalike songs. " Brand New Caddy" has a neat Cramps style guitar part. They also do a good cover of Frampton’s "Can You Feel It". Gunga Brain, Smoove, and MC Uh-Oh have developed a nice style. B. Bradshaw |

V/A-CITY ROCKERS - A TRIBUTE TO THE CLASH-Chord Chord0030
Cash from rip off. It’s hard to imagine today’s well-fed punk bands playing with the same hard-felt passion of the dole living Clash, and they don’t. Eighteen bands attempt to pay respect to the English trailblazers some 20 years after the fact. Dropkick Murphy’s shoot blanks on "Guns of Brixton", where Stigmata’s version of "Career Opportunities" should land them a space in the unemployment line. Jeff Maisey |

ATARI - TOO TIRED TO DRIVE HOME - Broken man BM1
This is a four song seven inch of fast hardcore. They have very catchy old school style songs. They remind me of a faster version of early Gorilla Biscuits. This is my pick for best new hardcore band of the year. M. Jagger |

THE JIMMIES - LET THE FAT MEN PLUNDER -Panic Button Lookout PB281/LK242
Loud fast rock and roll. This is a great CD all the songs rock. They do sound a lot like other bands on this label but that’s not a bad thing. If you like Screeching Weasel, The Queers, and The Eyeliners then this will go nicely in your collection. My favorite on the CD is "Chevy Van". Buy this record it’s well worth the money. D. Bradshaw |

RAMONA FOREVER/ A 1000 NEVER ENOUGH - Epsilon 1
I tend to like some of the emo bands. Both of these emo bands compliment each other. A 1000 Never Enough is the better of the bands even though I have heard that they already since this record have changed their name. Their song is very catchy. The Ramona Forever song has some nice female vocals, but the music just drifts along. I also have a hard time with their name since my ex wife was named Ramona. B. Bradshaw |

ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT - ROCKET DANCING BIRDS Glazed GLZ001
Black eye and Bombs away are both good songs but the band seems to be mellowing out. Both songs lack the edge that the earlier albums had. I’m sure they sound great live and still put on a great show. I enjoy this seven inch but I will wait for the album to make further judgement. B. Jones |

HAMILTON - FROM THIS WICKED FALL - Eudora
This record has typical hardcore heavy chugging guitars. The singer is good but he tends to get overshadowed by the band maybe it’s the mix on this record? The band is tight. Their drummer uses some pretty interesting fills and rhythms at times. D Washburn |

ONE LAST WISH - 1986 -Peterbilt 6/Dischord 118
After Rites of Spring broke up in 1986, Brendan Canty, Edward Janney, and Guy Piciotto teamed up with Michael Hampton from Faith to become One Last Wish. Very rarely do you obtain a CD where every song is good, but this is one of those. Even though the CD is only about 24 minutes long, it’s well worth the purchase. From the time "Hide" started to the end of "Home is the Place" I was completely entralled, which leads me back to say, BUY IT. Nathan Berger |

VARIOUS ARTISTS - THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN US
Goodfellow GFR003 Hard hitting hardcore compilation. Most of the bands are hardcore/metal bands, but the Montgomery 21 song doesn’t seem to fit. I’m more into old school hardcore so bands like Extinction and Shoulder were of more interest to me. The only song that I didn’t like was the Brothers Keeper song. The singer’s voice annoys me. He sounds like a chipmunk singing with a hardcore band. B. Jones |

ELLIOTT - CALVARY SONG/THE FAN AND THE BELLOWS 7" Revelation REV.88
This looks like the second in a series of singles by Elliott. First of all I’m a big Elliott fan so of these two songs Calvary Song" is the better, because it’s Elliott doing what they do best. "The Fan and the Bellows" is a great song , but because I’m a bigger Chameleons fan, I miss Mark Burgess’ voice on this. But Elliott does a great rendition of it. it’s nice when anyone remembers the Chameleons. B. Bradshaw |

CADALLACA - OUT WEST-Kill Rock Stars KRS362
Minimalist rock from Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney), Sarah Dougher and STS (Lookers). This is only four songs but it’s a great ep of pop songs. The farfisa organ sound reminds me of Magnetic Fields/early Rocketship at times. I especially like "Fake Karaoke Machine". D. Washburn |

TWO TON BOA - SELF TITLED - Kill Rock Stars KRS351
This is a very interesting CD ep. Their use of two bass players, chord organs, and glockenspiels make for a nice feel. The fuzz bass in "Puppet Charms" remind me of Joy Division, maybe even Siouxsie at times. Two Ton Boa has created dark psychoperettas with cradling lullaby vocals. Sherry Fraser has a great voice. Goth fans should check this out. Jeremy Bender |
